Introducing a collection of signed limited edition pop art cassette prints by Horace Panter, acclaimed artist & The Special's bassist.
Horace Panter, aka Sir Horace Gentleman, graduated with a degree in Fine Art from Coventry’s ‘Lanchester Polytechnic’ in 1975. It was there that he met Jerry Dammers and, together with Lynval Golding, they formed 2-tone ska band The Specials. Although better known as a musician, Horace has always kept up with his art practice,
Horace's work take influences from iconic pop artworks by Peter Blake, Andy Warhol & Robert Indiana to the depictions of light from realist painters Edward Hopper & David Hockney.
His giant 'cassette' artworks centre on the classic analogue tape and celebrate its nostalgic place and importance in music history. Each artwork represents a band or song that has stood the test of time and become celebrated as a pop classic, alongside the recording studio in which it was recorded. Many of these studio's no longer exist so Horace has carefully researched each cassette in order to provide all the correct details. Also in the collection are a range of collage style pop art prints featuring The Clash, Joe Strummer, The Ramones & Kurt Cobain.
