Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy pictured on a canal boat in Venice in 1995.
Kevin Westenberg recalls, "My favourite unseen photo from Casanova. Our third collaboration. Neil was calling it ‘Casanova’. As with the previous two, all I really knew about before the shoot was the title. Having remembered the fun we had in Paris in 1993, I was ready to have a great time in Venice! My best friend at the time had been assisting me as a lark. By this time, I was 100% dialed into the process and had absolute faith in my abilities and process. Considering it was December when we were shooting, we had the luck of the gods. It was perfect the whole 3 days. Not cold. Sun. No flooding and no tourists. This moment was the best of the whole shoot. I wanted to make a trip on one of the famous old wood canal boats but the timing had to be correct. The goal was to get on the boat near Rialto Bridge and make our way slowly down the Grand Canal just at the magic hour. So by the time we reached the famous front side of the canal at St Marks Sq. and the Basilica Di Santa Maria We would have perfect light. Our magic brew therefore had been created. All I had to do was get the shots. It was never intended to be some great goal to shoot the cover during this moment but what came out of it perfectly encapsulated the Casanova aesthetic".
