Kate Bush photographed wearing a pink leotard during a photoshoot by Gered Mankowitz for Wuthering Heights.
This is the only surviving colour image from the 'Pink Leotard' shoot for Wuthering Heights in January 1978. Gered wanted to reflect Kate's love of movement and selected a range of dancers' clothes for the session. In the end the shot was never used for the release.
Gered commented on the shoot, "I purchased some leotards, tights, leg-warmers and scarves, and placed them in our rather inadequate dressing room, which was actually a curtained-off corner in the studio. When Kate arrived, she disappeared behind the curtain with the make-up artists and stylist. Kate emerged in the pink leotard.
She looked beautiful, and I knew that we were going to have a fantastic session. She settled in front of my Hasselblad camera without a care in the world. Kate did not have much experience working with a professional photographer, and I felt that it was important to try and guide her through the process. She had a natural instinct and seemed to understand immediately how much the camera loved her."

A traditional C-type print is a colour print made in a darkroom from a colour negative or transparency. It is produced on light sensitive paper using a chromogenic process. Before digital technology, these were the prints we all received from the pharmacies from our holiday films. C-type prints are archival and are still preferred by some photographers and collectors to digital art prints.
