Van Halen were formed in Pasadena, California in 1972 by Dutch born brothers Eddie & Alex Van Halen. Fronted by singer David Lee Roth and supported by bassist Michael Anthony, they exploded onto the rock secene in 1977 with their distinctly heavy sound. Their guitarist Eddie Van Halen soon won worldwide acclaim with his blinding fast technique & innovative solos and the band were credited with "restoring hard rock to the forefront of the music scene".
Van Halen released their eponymous debut album in 1978 and by 1980 were one of the most successful rock acts of the time. They were famed for their energetic shows setting the bar for future rock acts to come.
Their album '1984' was a huge commercial success with sales of over 10 million copies and produced their most well known single "Jump" that achieved international acclaim. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Eddie Van Halen sadly died of cancer in 2020.
