Photo shoot for Telegraph Sunday Magazine used on Parallel Lines picture disc, taken in New York in 1978.
Martyn Goddard recalls, “The Parallel Lines picture disc image was from a session for the cover of the Telegraph magazine. It was shot in Debbie’s hotel suite in the Gramercy Park Hotel. I had the image in my head before leaving the UK and had obtained a white label test pressing album from Chrysalis Records, my plan to ask Ms Harry to kiss the blank LP.
I asked a hairdresser I had previously worked with to produce a special hairstyle for the shoot. To my surprise Debbie agreed, the time was set, the stylist arrived but at the last minute, Debbie decided her hair was in terrible condition and not fit for a photo session! Ten minutes with the stylist sorted that and I set about building a small studio in the sitting room using just one portable flash unit a stand, tripod and my trusty Nikon FM. The close-up part of the shoot progressed quickly and I was able to produce not only the cover for the magazine but also the record company chose one of the outtakes for Blondie’s European picture disc version of the great Parallel Lines album.”
