Howard works as a freelance photographer for the Daily and Sunday Telegraphs, The Guardian and The Observer. He worked exclusively for the Independent during its heyday in the late 80s' early 90s' and before that was a staff photographer on the Daily Mirror.
Howard began his career photographing the bands of the 70's and 80's with regular publications in NME, Melody Maker and Rolling Stone Magazine. His iconic images of The Ramones, Queen, Blondie and Iggy Pop are still regularly published around the world via Getty Images. In recent years his music commissions have included Elbow, Rufus Wainwright, Everything Everything and Foals.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and Chairman of its Visual Journalism/Documentary Distinctions Panel. Howard has won many top photographic awards including Kodak News Photographer of the Year. His photographs of Rock musicians started from his Art College days in the 70s' and span the last three decades.
Most of his early live band photographs have never before been published. Although now mainly a features photographer, Howard still gets opportunities to photograph musicians in a portrait style for the Observer and Guardian.
First and foremost, Howard is a photojournalist and corporate photographer, but he also undertakes select wedding commissions, documenting the couple's day with the same high standards that have kept him at the top of his profession for more than 30 years.
