Now you can join renowned Manchester music photographer Karen McBride for a series of photography workshops that are raising money to help keep our 'There is a Light That Never Goes Out' exhibition on permanent display in the city.
Karen has kindly offered her time & expertise to run two very inspiring and informative workshops based in Manchester that offer enthusiasts the opportunity to improve their photographic understanding and skills.
The first 2 hour workshop run by Karen concentrates on band portraiture. Using examples from the exhibition you will study shots of bands & the photographers who took them. You will gain an understanding of what makes a shot work & how you can apply successful techniques to your own photos. In addition you will learn approaches to take when contacting bands for shoots & how to handle group shots and individuals. Final dates will be arranged once the places have been filled. Location Central Manchester.
The cost is just £15 and there are only 10 places available. You can book your place via our Crowdfunder page here
In this 3 hour Masterclass you will join Karen at a local Manchester music venue. You will learn the best techniques to overcome the challenges of shooting in low light & how to compose and take the perfect live shot. The aim is to focus on taking fewer, structured, high quality shots that capture the spirit of a live performance. Once you have uploaded and finalised your images there will be an online review via email of a small selection of images & guidance on how to improve on your next live gig shoot. Final dates & venue will be arranged once the places have been filled. Location Central Manchester

Our 'There is a Light That Never Goes Out' photography exhibition is a celebration of Manchester's rock music history.
First shown at Manchester’s Central Library last year, this 80 picture exhibition proved hugely successful and due to popular demand has now been redisplayed at University Place, Manchester University. We would love to keep it in the city permanently as a reminder of Manchester's amazing music legacy and to inspire future generations. However, we funded the free exhibition entirely ourselves and unfortunately do not have the money to keep it in the city permanently. We need the frames and prints for future exhibitions elsewhere. So we have undertaken a crowdfunding campaign in association with the University of Manchester to raise the funds to give the exhibition a permanent home.
We'd love you to support our campaign by signing up for our rewards or pledging a donation here
Karen McBride’s music photography has gained her extensive recognition; often working in black and white, with images which grip the gaze of the onlooker. From Lou Reed to Liam Gallagher, Scotty Moore to the Scissor Sisters, she has documented a great number of artists – though her love for Manchester’s more secretive venues, grassroots music and new bands still persists.
“Honesty, integrity, soul. It is present in every shot she takes.” John Robb on Karen McBride
