Tony Collins

Born at the end of the war, Tony was brought up in Waterloo, South London. After a promising career as a barrow-boy was brought to a premature close by a VERY large spider, he began working in the picture library at the Evening Standard. Complaining one day about the - to him - poor quality of the football photographs, he was challenged to do better. Accordingly, with a borrowed camera, and after two hours tuition on the roof of the Standard building with the wonderful Roy Jones, he marched off to Highbury to photograph Arsenal v Stoke. That days photos formed the centre spread of the following edition of 'SHOOT!' magazine, and Tony became a smudger, supplying, amoungst others, the Evening Standard, NME and various football magazines.

Tony currently works for the National Theatre and can occasionally be persuaded to take some holiday snaps.
