  • I went on a tour of Ireland with the Undertones in 1980. We stayed in b&b places and took pictures in rural locations. I loved their their 'Derry' style which was short jeans and Doc Martin boots - a throw back to the skinhead era - offset by jumpers knitted by aunties or jackets borrowed from younger sisters.

  • Taken on the flat roof outside the BBC canteen in White City. The band's biggest fan was the late great BBC DJ John Peel, who played their classic single 'Teenage Kicks' at every opportunity making it a hit. Other images from this shoot were used on their Sire Album, The Undertones 1979

  • This was a pub gig in Chester for 'Sounds'. I remember it was complete mayhem and I had to physically fight to get any shots at all. I used to use a Nikon F3 with a motor drive and a Metz bolted on so I could hang on to the camera in the same way those old guys used to with there Press Graflexs. The street shot was around the corner from the awful B&B were we all stayed.
