  • I took this shot of Johnny Rotten in July 1977 at the first show of what allegedly was a secret Scandinavian tour. The Sex Pistols did two nights in a small club, Daddy’s Dance Hall, in Copenhagen, Denmark. I love this shot because this punk, supposedly insane in his straitjacket, looks like a sweet boy. And though he is completely still this shot has all his energy in it.

  • Post lunch pose for Record Mirror feature on Sid & Nancy’s relationship. My memories of the shoot are of their general reluctance to co-operate, with Nancy by far the more intimidating of the duo. There were certainly some scary moments but looking at the shoot as a whole, the opposite appears to be the case.

  • This was the middle part of a Record Mirror commission to illustrate a piece on Sid and Nancy’s relationship. At this point they were happy to pose and presumably found the surroundings harmonious.

  • This was taken during the middle part of a long session for Record Mirror to illustrate Sid & Nancy’s relationship. They had finished the interview by this point and were feeling relaxed enough to pose. Probably my personal favourite of this collection of images, despite the fact that as a rookie photographer, I nearly ruined this frame in development. Evidence of this can be seen on the right of the frame, one of my lucky breaks.

The “White Kids”, Glen Matlock (Bass) & Steve New (Guitar) from The Rich Kids, plus Rat Scabies (Drums) from The Damned were hastily assembled for this one-off gig in Camden Town to raise funds for Sid and Nancy to travel to New York. Two months later Nancy was dead, followed by Sid, four months afterwards.
