Taking photographs of the new hip hop scene in New York for The Face magazine I wanted to capture Run DMC (Joseph "Run" Simmons, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels and Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell) in their hood, where they grew up. Riding the subway out to Hollis Queens I anticipated a run down neighbourhood with drug dealers on the corner. Instead I found a leafy quiet street, a perfect place to hang out and play music. <<
