  • Shot in my grungy but legendary studio in East London (well before it became "East London"), this was back when Pulp were known only for their unstinting refusal to give up. 10 years of un success had not dented Jarvis's self-belief and suddenly with "The Gift Recordings" EP they started to hit their stride. I remember being impressed with his cheekbones but unmoved by his elevated cool.

  • This was for an NME piece on favourite films. Jarvis, being the grim Northern lad that he is, chose Kes by Barry Hines set in his hometown of Sheffield. The poster of the film has the young star flicking a 'V' sign at the the camera in grainy black & white so this was my mimic of that. What I didn't know was that 6 months later at the Brits Jarvis would flick 'V' signs at Michael Jackson live on TV. Maybe this shoot inspired him!
