ROCKARCHIVE will be showcasing selected mouth-watering works of art by critically acclaimed jazz photographer William Ellis.
Widely regarded as having created an important document on the contemporary international jazz scene in Africa, Europe and the Americas, Ellis is at the vanguard of music photographers. To celebrate this prolific artist, this unique Rockarchive exhibition will feature a collection of Ellis' iconic images, six of which will be honoured in Rockarchive's Edition 100.
Many of the most influential musicians in the genre are featured - bebop pioneer Max Roach, master drummer Al Foster, the Godfather of British Jazz - Stan Tracey, the incredible Herbie Hancock, peerless Pat Metheny and the most charismatic figure in jazz Miles Davis all wonderfully portrayed by William Ellis - a photographer whose work reflects the atmosphere, energy and excitement of a great art form.
Great vocalists have always told the story of jazz - in the collection are compelling images of Tony Bennett, Kurt Elling, Liza Minnelli, Buena Vista's Omara Portuondo and the great Nancy Wilson captured in full flight.
Rarely seen images from back stage and sound checks - quiet moments that express so much about life on the road - Roy Hargrove, McCoy Tyner and bluesmen BB King and Buddy Guy along with exquisite still-life images of beautiful musical instruments make this one of the definitive jazz exhibitions to be seen in London.
So whether you are a music lover, art enthusiast, musician or all three this is a Rockarchive show not to be missed!
A private viewing on 21st April will launch the exhibition where these captivating and magical images will be displayed until 4th May. Head down to the Rockarchive Gallery in Islington and secure your experience.
