Kate Simon was born and raised in upstate New York. Her father, medical doctor and amateur photographer, introduced her early on to photography - and that's where she picked up the 'bug'.

Kate attended University and art school in Washington DC and Paris, France. For a large part of the seventies she travelled back and forth, photographing throughout Europe, Jamaica and America. From the start she shot predominantly musical subjects and by the mid-80s, living in New York City, she was working on portraits of writers and painters, in addition to musicians. Her portfolio now includes people from every vocation, from cook to masseuse, to champion diver.

Although she has worked on landscapes and still lifes, it is people that ultimately draw her back, regardless of their occupation. She believes that, as they say, facial expression is concentrated spirit.
