  • Joy Division were playing at the YMCA in London supported by Monochrome Set. I don't remember which publications sent me to shoot the show but it was probably Sounds. The show was sold out and Ian Curtis was a compelling performer. I loved the strange way he moved in his grey school boy trousers. The band were not yet well known and it was easy for me to visit the dressing-room after the gig to take some pictures. They didn't mind and I didn't take too many to disturb them. I still think that pictures of the musicians just before or just after they've come off stage makes great rock photography.
