Horace Panter Tour Pass Print Collection

Often overlooked and rarely preserved, tour passes are fascinating pieces of music history. Created to grant backstage access for artists, crew and guests, these small laminated credentials capture a specific moment in time, documenting the concerts, festivals and tours that define a musician's life on the road. Combining striking graphic design with historical significance, they offer a unique window into the world behind the stage.

Horace Panter, bassist and founding member of The Specials, has transformed eight of these original tour passes into a vibrant series of artworks. Drawing on a touring career that spans more than four decades, the collection celebrates not only the music but also the visual culture that surrounds live performance.

Each artwork represents a different chapter in Panter's career. A 2015 pass commemorates The Specials' first performances in Mexico, featuring an eye-catching Day of the Dead-inspired skull design created for the band's long-awaited debut in the country. Another reproduces the colourful Encore AAA laminate from the band's acclaimed reunion tours, while a classic AAA pass incorporates line drawings of The Specials, reflecting the band's unmistakable two-tone aesthetic. The remaining pieces capture a variety of backstage credentials collected over the years, each preserving the original typography, graphics and signs of use that make every pass a unique artefact.

Bold, colourful and instantly recognisable, the series reflects Horace Panter's distinctive pop art style, transforming everyday objects into works that celebrate music history, design and memory. Together, these eight pieces offer an intimate perspective on life behind the scenes, revealing that sometimes the smallest souvenirs can tell the biggest stories.
